- The proposed building will cost $12-15 million dollars
- It will be 35,000 square feet under roof
- It will be sited on 3-4 acres of property on the 982-acre Central Maryland Research and Education Center in Howard County

Programs to be housed at the Center
This will be the first LEED-certified green building in the country built on a land-grant university farm. In addition to the public meeting spaces and demonstration gardens, this building will also house top College programs such as:
- Maryland Master Gardener Program
- Howard County Extension (4-H Youth Development, Family and Consumer Sciences, Master Gardener Program)
- Home and Garden Information Center
- Commercial and Environmental Horticulture
- Bay-Wise Landscaping Program
- 4-H Youth Equine Program
- Maryland Agricultural Experiment Station Headquarters
College research faculty and graduate students will also be housed at the Center.
Who will benefit?
- General public—educational community, community groups, and private citizens through tours, classes, workshops, etc.
- Agricultural community—through research and training to improve the environment and the bottom line
- Business community—through conferences, tours, and workshops to showcase the green building model
Research & demonstration gardens
- Native plants require less maintenance, fertilizer, water, and pesticides
- Vegetable and herb gardens illustrate possibilities of home-grown produce, urban farming, and composting techniques
- Commercial research trials for nursery and greenhouse trade
- Gardens will demonstrate the “right plant, right place” concept and highlight plants that can tolerate heat and drought
